Gutter Cleaning Services in Stamford, CT
Gutter Cleaning in Stamford, CT
Gutter cleaning calls in Stamford come in two waves. The first is late spring, after the oaks drop their tassels and the maples let go of their seeds. The second is late fall, when most of the leaves come down within a few weeks of each other. In between, one summer storm can clog a gutter that was clean in May.
Elite Gutter Care has been cleaning gutters here since 2013, from Shippan and the Cove up through Springdale, Glenbrook and North Stamford. We clean gutters by hand and flush every downspout.
What our gutter cleaning service includes
How long a visit takes depends on how much gutter the house has, how high it is and how packed the gutters are. The work itself stays the same:
- Leaves, pine needles, seed pods and the black sludge at the bottom come out of every run by hand. Whatever is left gets swept toward the outlets.
- Loose debris sitting on the roof edge and in the valleys right above the gutters comes off too, so the next rain doesn’t wash it straight back in.
- Each downspout is flushed with a hose, and clogged ones get cleared.
- We run water through the system to confirm it drains toward the downspouts and doesn’t sit in the corners.
- Everything we pull out is bagged and hauled away. Walkways and beds under the gutter line get cleaned up before we leave.
- While we’re up there we look at hangers, seams, end caps and the pitch, and we’ll tell you if anything is loose or leaking.
If a section needs more than a cleaning, our gutter repair service can take care of it.

Downspout cleaning and flushing
A plugged downspout backs up the whole gutter above it. Most clogs form at the elbows, where a wad of leaves gets wedged and everything behind it slowly turns to mud. We flush the downspouts one by one and clear what’s stuck.
Some downspouts run into pipes under the lawn. When water still backs up after the downspout is clear, the problem is usually in that buried line, and our underground drainage service covers it.
Roof and gutter cleaning
Leaves collect in roof valleys and behind chimneys, and every rain pushes more of that into the gutters. Clearing it while we’re on the roof makes a gutter cleaning last longer. We take the loose debris off by hand.
Two- and three-story houses
Ladder work on two- and three-story houses is risky, and it’s the reason a lot of people stop cleaning their own gutters. We’re licensed and insured, and tall houses are a normal part of our week. Anyone still deciding can compare the two options in our post on DIY vs. professional gutter cleaning.

What happens when gutters stay clogged
Water that can’t get into the downspout goes over the front of the gutter or runs behind it. Behind it, the water soaks the fascia board and the soffit, and the wood eventually starts to rot. Over the front, it lands right next to the foundation, where it washes out mulch, erodes the soil and finds its way into basements. A wet basement often traces back to one overflowing corner.
The weight adds up as well. A run of gutter packed with wet leaves can pull its hangers loose, and a sagging gutter holds standing water that breeds mosquitoes. In winter that water freezes, and frozen, clogged gutters make ice dams and the other damage from neglected gutters worse.
Trees, wind and older gutters in Stamford
Stamford gutters fill up fast. Lots in North Stamford and along the Merritt are full of mature oaks, maples and white pines that drop something into the gutters most of the year. Closer to the water in Shippan, Cove and Waterside there are fewer trees, but wind off Long Island Sound carries leaves and grit onto roofs from the whole street. Older homes downtown and on the West Side often have narrower gutters, and those clog faster.
Because we’re based in Stamford, we know which streets fill up first in the fall. Call us and we’ll find a time that works for your house.
How often should gutters be cleaned in Stamford?
Twice a year covers most houses: once in late spring and once in late fall, after the last leaves have dropped. With trees hanging over the roof, plan on three or four cleanings. Pine needles cause the most trouble, since they’re thin and mat down into a felt that water can’t get through.
| When | What ends up in the gutters | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (April to June) | Maple seeds, oak tassels, pollen, whatever was left from winter | Long spring rains find every clog |
| Summer (July and August) | Twigs and leaves from storms, shingle grit | Thunderstorms drop a lot of water in a short time |
| Early fall (October) | The first leaf drop | Keeps water moving before most of the leaves arrive |
| Late fall (November to early December) | The main leaf drop, pine needles | Wet leaves left in gutters freeze in place for the winter |
Timing also depends on the trees around the house, which is why some neighbors on the same street need a different gutter cleaning frequency. Late fall is the cleaning most people skip and regret, for reasons covered in the best time of year for gutter cleaning in Connecticut.
Seasonal gutter cleaning
Most of our Stamford customers book seasonal gutter cleaning in spring and fall, and houses under heavy tree cover add a visit or two. When you call, tell us how many trees are near the roof and we’ll suggest a schedule.
How much does gutter cleaning cost in Stamford?
Gutter cleaning prices depend on the total length of gutter, the height of the house, the pitch of the roof, how much has built up and whether there are gutter guards to work around. A small ranch and a three-story colonial under old trees are very different jobs, so the price depends on the house. Call us or send the form and we’ll give you a free estimate for yours. Statewide gutter cleaning costs in CT vary for the same reasons.
Residential gutter cleaning
Most of our work is on houses, from older homes on narrow lots near downtown to larger properties in North Stamford with long gutter runs and several rooflines.
About Elite Gutter Care
We’re a local gutter company based on Gleason Avenue in Stamford, so most jobs in town are a short drive away. We’ve been at this since 2013, we’re licensed and insured, and estimates are free. Our rating on Google is 5.0. Reviews mostly mention that the crew shows up on time and leaves the yard clean, and that paying online is easy.
Gutter guards and other services
Gutter guards mean fewer cleanings, though you’ll still need some. Pine needles and seed pods settle on top of most guards and need clearing now and then. The black streaks that build up on the outside of gutters are a different problem, and our power washing service takes care of those. The trade-offs between the two are part of our comparison of gutter cleaning vs. gutter guards.

Gutter cleaning questions
Do you clean the downspouts too?
Every downspout gets flushed, and the clogged ones get cleared. If water backs up from a line under the ground, we’ll tell you what we saw.
Can you clean gutters that have guards on them?
Most guards can be lifted or unclipped, so the gutter underneath can still be cleaned. Ask about your type of guard when you call and we’ll explain how we’d handle it.
Do you take the debris with you?
It all goes into bags and leaves with us, so nothing gets dumped in your beds or behind the garage.
Is it worth cleaning gutters in early winter?
A cleaning in late November or early December, after the last leaves fall, is one of the most useful of the year. It means the gutters go into the freeze empty.
How much will it cost for my house?
That depends on the size and height of the house and how much has built up. Send us your address through the form or give us a call for a free estimate.
